Tritonia hombergii

Tritonia hombergii is the biggest nudibranchs we have up here in the north. It can grow up to 20 cm and can be found eating and hiding among the Dead-man’s finger (alcyonium digitatum). Up here in Saltstraumen it is very commonly found at Ørneset and Oksebåsen, from shallow to depth around 40 m.

This nudibranchs is the only one in our water you should be careful around as it can hurt you. The back is covered with rounded tubercles and these can exclude a irritating compound that can harm you.

Carl von Linne - Carolus a Linné

Carl von Linné  (13. mai 1707 - 10. jan 1778) was a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist, who laid the foundations for the modern scheme of binomial nomenclature. He is known as the father of modern taxonomy, and is also considered one of the fathers of modern ecology. Many of his writings were in Latin, and his name is rendered in Latin as Carolus Linnæus (after 1761 Carolus a Linné).
